The challenges of the global energy landscape should be seen as opportunities. We need ‘and’ solutions, not ‘or’ solutions, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, UAE Climate Change Special Envoy and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, H.E. Dr Sultan Al Jaber said.

In his opening address at ADIPEC 2022, H.E. Dr Al Jaber said that the industry is convening in Abu Dhabi at a moment when energy is the world’s top priority against a backdrop of geopolitical and economic volatility.

Recalling a conversation with President H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Dr Al Jaber said that pursuing progress is in the DNA of UAE.

He highlighted that energy security is the foundation of progress.

Stopping investment in hydrocarbons would mean losing 5 million barrels per day each year to natural decline, ‘making the shocks we have experienced this year feel like a minor tremor’.

“There is no better place in the world to drive progress than right here, in Abu Dhabi, at ADIPEC, at this gathering of some of the best minds in the world.”

“It is oil and gas, and solar, and wind, and nuclear, and hydrogen. Plus the clean energies yet to be discovered, commercialized and deployed," H.E. added.

"The world needs maximum energy, minimum emissions.”

His Excellency noted how ADNOC has connected its operations to clean power, is reducing its methane intensity further, and is moving forward with technology such as carbon capture and storage.

“Ahead of COP27 and as the UAE prepares to host COP28 – the Emirates Climate Conference – our efforts should focus on a new, bold and realistic pathway that benefits humanity, the climate and the economy.”

His Excellency ended his remarks by urging the industry to unite and ‘forge the future’ by supplying the world with what it needs – secure, accessible and sustainable energy.
