Achieving Sustainability Requires a Holistic Approach: Microsoft

SME News Service

In this exclusive video Sherif Tawfik, Chief Sustainability Officer, Microsoft Middle East & Africa, emphasises on the need for companies taking a “holistic approach” to developing their sustainability projects.

Mr Tawfik highlights the multiple challenges existing today in achieving a more sustainable future primary among them is the lack of global standards for everyone to follow when implementing and measuring the success or failure of their sustainability initiatives.

“Another thing is the visibility of the value chain. Today Scope 3 is all about value chain. Is there transparency? Is there visibility? And how we can influence that. That’s another big challenge,” said Mr Tawfik.

Also, in terms of measuring emissions governments and companies have to deal with a number of “siloed systems” with too many sources of data and manual processes.

Microsoft, collaborating with ClimateWorks Foundation has launched an initiative called Carbon Call which provides companies with a technology-based common platform that helps them make the right sustainability-related decisions based on reliable and unified data.
