Climate Change: DP World Supports UK's Exter Univ On Blue Carbon Study

Plant life in oceans and along coasts is far more effective at absorbing and storing carbon dioxide than forests on land

DP World supported Blue Marine Foundation and the University of Exter in the UK to prepare a report for understanding the potential for Blue Carbon at tackling climate change.

Blue Carbon is a term used to describe the carbon stored in our oceans and marine ecosystems.

The findings show that there is certainly potential for blue carbon to be an important part of organisations’ carbon reduction efforts, Group Chief People and Sustainability Officer, DP World, Maha AlQattan said.

"The importance of protecting rainforests and tree planting are often prominent in policies aimed at tackling climate change and decarbonisation.

"But did you know that plant life in our oceans and along our coasts is actually far more effective at absorbing and storing carbon dioxide than any forests on land?," AlQattan stated in a post on Linkedin.

Since learning this, it’s become clear to that the restoration and protection of mangroves, seagrasses, and marshes is hugely important and needs more attention.

"We’re particularly interested in nature-based solutions that make DP World a more sustainable and responsible business, in line with our 'Our World, Our Future' strategy," she added.
