Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has taken a major step towards sustainable transport, announcing plans to install multiple battery-swapping stations for electric bikes across strategic locations in the emirate.

The initiative, launched in collaboration with Terra Tech Ltd, a MENA-based micro-mobility technology start-up, is set to accelerate Dubai’s transition to greener, zero-emission fleets.

Driving Sustainable Commercial Transport

The move underscores RTA’s commitment to sustainable mobility and reflects its broader vision of encouraging delivery companies to embrace eco-friendly alternatives. By offering an integrated charging solution tailored for operators’ needs, the initiative will help reduce both emissions and the total cost of ownership for delivery businesses.

Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, noted that the project aligns with the Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030, which targets a 30% reduction in carbon emissions. Infrastructure development across 36 locations will be prioritized to meet operational requirements and introduce a scalable model for the delivery sector.

A Model for Future-Ready Cities

According to Mahboob, the collaboration will also pave the way for alternative energy solutions, while minimizing noise pollution and enhancing service quality for residents and businesses alike. “We invite delivery and commercial sector partners to utilize this initiative and work alongside us towards a more efficient and sustainable future,” he said.

Terra’s Role in Empowering the Sector

Terra CEO Husam Al Zammar welcomed the partnership, praising RTA’s leadership in advancing sustainable infrastructure and regulating the rapidly growing delivery sector. “We value RTA’s confidence in our solution for developing battery-swapping stations and look forward to working together to empower the electric bike delivery ecosystem in Dubai,” he said.

Towards a Greener, More Efficient Delivery Ecosystem

With this pioneering initiative, RTA is positioning Dubai as a regional leader in sustainable transport innovation. By enabling large-scale adoption of electric bikes for delivery services, the collaboration with Terra Tech represents a key step toward reducing carbon footprints while supporting the city’s growth as a future-ready hub for mobility.
