The Environmental Impact of Qatar’s Stadium 974 Outlined in a New Report

Stadium 974 is built primarily from shipping containers and recycled steel

A study into the environmental impact of Qatar’s Stadium 974 – the first fully demountable tournament venue in FIFA World Cup™ history – has been published.

The report, titled ‘Greenhouse Gas Emission Analysis of a Demountable FIFA World Cup™ Stadium’, was commissioned by FIFA and delivered by emission reduction experts.

Stadium 974 is built primarily from shipping containers and recycled steel. It is located in Doha – close to Hamad International Airport and opposite the stunning West Bay skyline.

The venue hosted its first match on 30 November 2021 during the FIFA Arab Cup™. During Qatar 2022, the stadium will host seven matches up to the round of 16 stage.

The report outlines various scenarios in relation to the stadium’s legacy – including the potential for it to be repurposed in one, two or three new locations.
