The Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) has been honoured with the Excellence in Energy – Power award at the 2025 Platts Global Energy Awards, hosted by S&P Global Commodity Insights in New York.

This marks the first time in a decade that a company solely focused on nuclear energy has received the prestigious accolade, reflecting ENEC’s leadership and remarkable achievements in the global power sector.

ENEC earned the recognition for the successful delivery and operation of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, the first multi-unit nuclear facility in the Arab world and the region’s largest single source of clean electricity.

The award underscores Barakah’s status as a global benchmark for large-scale nuclear projects, delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest international standards, while generating long-lasting national and international benefits.

The milestone highlights the growing importance of nuclear energy as nations seek reliable, always-on electricity. ENEC’s achievement also reinforces Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s position as a leader in the global energy sector, exemplifying civil nuclear best practices and supporting the region’s industrial and technological growth with clean, dependable power.

Selected by an independent panel of international energy experts, the award spans projects across all generation technologies, including renewables, conventional power, and advanced grid solutions.

His Excellency Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Group CEO of ENEC, said: "This award recognises nuclear energy as a vital source of clean baseload electricity.

"The Barakah Plant, powered by our talented UAE Nationals and international experts, has transformed the region’s energy landscape and supported our communities, industries, and growing digital infrastructure. We are now sharing our model of civil nuclear success globally to accelerate safe and efficient deployment of nuclear energy."

The Platts Global Energy Awards, celebrating nearly three decades of sector achievements, acknowledge organisations making tangible impact. ENEC’s recognition places it among an elite group of international power companies and highlights the Barakah Plant’s timely delivery, on-budget execution, and world-class efficiency.

With this global-first award, ENEC signals a new chapter in exporting its expertise, fostering international cooperation, and advancing the deployment of nuclear energy worldwide.
