MacGregor has been selected to supply a 400-tonne Active Heave Compensated (AHC) subsea crane for a new 127-metre Floating Wind Farm Construction Vessel (FWCV), purpose-built to serve the rapidly growing floating offshore wind sector.

The project represents one of the most significant subsea crane orders placed in recent years and marks a major milestone for next-generation wind installation vessels.

The order has been booked into MacGregor’s first quarter 2026 order intake.

Supporting the Next Phase of Floating Offshore Wind

The contract has been awarded by Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., with vessel operations to be managed by Hana Shipping Co., Ltd. The crane will play a central role in the FWCV’s operations, supporting mooring installation, cable laying, and other critical subsea construction activities required for floating wind developments.

The vessel’s first deployment is expected at the Ulsan Floating Wind Farm Construction project, located approximately 70 kilometres off the coast of Ulsan, South Korea.

Delivery Timeline and Project Execution

Delivery of the 400-tonne SWL AHC subsea crane is scheduled for late 2027, with delivery of the vessel planned for Q2 2028.

Due to the high level of system integration required — including the under-deck positioning of the crane’s main hoist — the project demands close technical collaboration with the shipyard. MacGregor’s proximity to the yard, supported by strong local production capabilities and on-the-ground resources, will ensure efficient execution and seamless integration.

Industry Leadership in High-Capacity Subsea Lifting

Commenting on the contract award, Lucie Addicks, Executive Vice President, Offshore Solutions Division, MacGregor, said:

“This significant contract win underlines MacGregor’s position as one of the few global suppliers capable of delivering AHC subsea cranes of this size and complexity, backed by a strong track record of proven performance in service. The project highlights our ability to combine technically robust and efficient solutions with close cooperation and local support throughout both construction and vessel operations.”
