Emirati Youth's Agro-Industrial Tourism Project Bags Sustainability Design Award

The project imagines a sustainable destination between Etihad Rail and UAE’s agricultural setting by utilising waste from the dates industry

Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) has announced Maitha Alhammadi as the winner of the 2022 TotalEnergies Sustainability Design Award, which recognises young Emiratis in the fields of sustainable design and architecture.

Her project “Agro-Industrial Tourism” imagines a sustainable destination between Etihad Rail and the UAE’s agricultural setting that merges agriculture, tourism, soil and aquifer treatment, utilising waste from the UAE’s dates industry such as seeds and spoiled dates.

H.E. Huda Ibrahim Alkhamis, Founder of Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF), Founder of Abu Dhabi Festival, said: “We are pleased to commemorate 10 years of partnership with TotalEnergies as part of our mission to reward and empower Emirati youth.

NDC Partnership Designs Strategies to Drive Sustainable Development

An award ceremony will be held on March 1, 2023, at Emirates Palace in the presence of H.E. Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation, along with representatives of TotalEnergies and several senior officials and culture partners.

During the event, Maitha Alhammadi will be awarded for her work, “Agro-Industrial Tourism” along with AED 10,000 ($2,722) prize.

The TotalEnergies Sustainability Design Award recognises outstanding innovation and achievement by young Emiratis in the fields of sustainable design and architecture, seeking to nurture potential and creative talent by providing a launch pad for emerging designers and architects across the UAE.
