US$300 Million Global Push: UNICEF, MBRGI and CIFF Unite to Combat Child Malnutrition
In a major global humanitarian initiative, UNICEF, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, and Children’s Investment Fund Foundation have launched a transformative $300 million partnership to tackle child malnutrition worldwide.
The collaboration, announced as part of the UAE’s broader “Edge of Life” campaign, underscores a growing international effort to address one of the most pressing global health crises—childhood hunger and undernutrition.
A Mission to Save Millions
The partnership is expected to help save at least three million children from malnutrition, with long-term ambitions to reach even more under the wider campaign targeting five million children globally.
An initial $100 million contribution will be used to unlock an additional $200 million, significantly expanding the scale of life-saving nutrition programmes across vulnerable regions.
How the Programme Will Work
At the heart of the initiative is UNICEF’s Child Nutrition Fund, which will serve as the primary vehicle for delivering sustainable solutions. The programme will focus on:
Preventing malnutrition before it occurs
Early detection of at-risk children
Providing therapeutic treatment and essential nutrition
Strengthening healthcare systems in vulnerable communities
With its extensive global presence, UNICEF will lead on-ground implementation, ensuring aid reaches children in the most fragile and underserved regions.
A Race Against Time
The urgency of the initiative is stark. Globally, five children under the age of five die every minute due to hunger and malnutrition, highlighting the scale of the crisis.
By combining funding, technical expertise, and global networks, the three organisations aim to reverse this trend and create long-term, sustainable impact.
UAE’s Growing Humanitarian Role
The initiative is part of the UAE-led Edge of Life campaign, launched during Ramadan by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The campaign seeks to mobilise global support and funding to combat hunger and improve child survival rates worldwide.
Officials say the partnership reflects a broader vision of fostering global solidarity and scaling up investments in nutrition, especially as humanitarian needs continue to rise.
