The 10th World Green Economy Summit (WGES) will feature global experts, government representatives, international organisations, academics, and the media.

Scheduled for October 2 to 3, at the Dubai World Trade Centre, the summit aims to enhance international cooperation and foster dialogue on environmental and economic objectives, as well as building a sustainable and inclusive future.

WGES 2024 will focus on key themes aimed at advancing the transition towards a green and sustainable economy.

These include decarbonisation and net zero goals, clean energy advancements, climate finance, circular economy, policy and regulatory frameworks, using technology to tackle climate change, youth in climate change, and food and water.

Through its various sessions, the summit will provide a platform for dialogue, highlighting the most crucial forward-looking sustainable solutions based on innovation and the latest technologies.

These discussions aim to support collective global efforts in climate and environmental action and promote the advancement of the global green economy.

H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD&CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and Chairman of the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) said: “Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we aim to foster global cooperation by providing a platform that unites stakeholders from around the world.

"This platform allows them to share their insights, knowledge, and experiences, contributing to the enhancement of global climate action and the development of effective solutions for positive change.

"Our goals include achieving sustainable development, ensuring a fair energy transition, and accelerating the shift towards a sustainable green economy.

"These efforts reflect the UAE's leadership and pivotal role in global climate action. We are confident that this year's summit will have significant discussions and yield fruitful results across its various themes and issues."

H.E. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure said: “WGES is a major step in our journey to build a sustainable green economy that aligns with our national vision for the future.

"We in the UAE believe that shifting to a green economy is not only an environmental obligation, but also a genuine opportunity to drive innovation, create new jobs, and ensure a prosperous future for generations to come.

"We put high emphasis on collaborative work between the government and the private sector. We support public-private partnerships that contribute to a more sustainable future and believe that sustainability challenges can only be overcome by a collective response.

"We are confident that WGES will greatly contribute to developing effective solutions and highlighting new initiatives that drive an integrated green economy."

Helmut Von Struve, CEO, Siemens Middle East said: “The World Green Economy Summit is one of the region’s top sustainability events, and Siemens is proud to participate. Our technology enables utilities to integrate renewable energy sources into the grid, providing reliable and sustainable power.

"As the economy shifts toward greater electrification and demand for batteries grow, Siemens Xcelerator’s wide range of digital solutions and services for building management, power supply, and electrification helps battery manufacturers operate more efficiently, reliably and safely."

Gauri Singh, Deputy Director General, IRENA said: "The energy transition will require an economy-wide effort, interlinked with almost every sector.

"While policies and regulations to scale up and support renewable energy generation and integration are critical, they must be part of a broader framework that extends beyond the energy sector.

"This holistic approach is essential to drive the structural changes needed to ensure the transition not only succeeds but also promotes more equitable outcomes."
