Ben Palmer: Connectivity is the Key for Sustainable Shipping

Satellite service provider Inmarsat’s President of Maritime Business gives exclusive insight to TLME

TLME recently spoke to Inmarsat’s President of Maritime Business Ben Palmer about the future of shipping, sustainability, and how new satellites can offer the sector huge new opportunities.

Mr Palmer, who achieved an Order of the British Empire in 2002, believes that the shipping sector must “embrace the necessity” of decarbonisation, believing that connectivity is key.

In fact, Mr Palmer reiterated the importance of connectivity as “…the oxygen that gives life to decarbonisation initiatives.”

He further added that the challenge we face is to ensure universal commitment and tangible steps to meaningful change, believing that we need an industry-wide conversation in which there needs to be collaboration and trust.

He also outlined the new satellites Inmarsat is launching that offer a ‘road map’ for the shipping industry, before affirming the massive role Dubai has to play in this change as a thriving, tech-friendly city.
