Royal Air Maroc Joins IATA’s Environmental Assessment Program

The IEnvA identifies environmental impacts and risks and provides tools to assist the company in implementing its environmental policy

Morocco’s national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has joined the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) environmental assessment program (IEnVA) to reinforce its commitment to environmental sustainability.

The new commitment was made during a signing meeting held last week in Abu Dhabi on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the Arab Air Carriers’ Organization (AACO).

The IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) program is an independent evaluation system designed to assess and improve airline environmental management.

The program is entirely voluntary, and is based on the principles of environmental compliance and a commitment to continuous improvement of environmental management processes.

The IEnvA identifies environmental impacts and risks and provides tools to assist the company in implementing its environmental policy.

The policy will address CO2 emissions, the use of single-use plastics, the treatment of cabin waste, and the fight against the illegal transportation of protected species onboard aircraft.

The process is audited every two years by independent third-party experts, and the airline is then certified as an EnvA.

During the signing ceremony, Kamil Al -Awadhi, IATA Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East said: “Royal Air Maroc’s membership of IEnvA underscores its commitment to improving the company’s environmental management practices and sustainability.

“IATA is proud to work with its member company to introduce world-class environmental management practices in the aviation industry.”
