Abu Dhabi has achieved another sustainability milestone. Tadweer Group and Umm Al Emarat Park have jointly secured a new Guinness World Record for creating the largest recycled-materials mosaic, assembled entirely from used plastic bottle caps.

Unveiled and certified on December 18 during a special ceremony at the Park, the mosaic spans 25 square metres and features designs inspired by universal recycling symbols. The effort transformed waste into art and mobilised the public around environmental responsibility.

The record was accomplished through broad community participation. Over 24,800 bottle caps were arranged during more than 18 cumulative hours, with 356 visitors taking part. Families, students and residents joined the initiative during dedicated sessions held from 8–10 December, when the Park offered free entry to encourage involvement across Abu Dhabi.

The project was the final activation under Tadweer’s “Cap Your Way to Sustainability” campaign, which mobilised local schools and organisations to collect plastic caps and reinforce awareness about recycling. Tadweer led the technical aspects of the record attempt, including the design and construction of the mosaic structure.

Tadweer’s Executive Director of Communications and Awareness, Abdulwahed Juma, said the project reflects the Group’s commitment to sustainability and advancing its target of diverting 80% of Abu Dhabi’s waste from landfills by 2030.

Umm Al Emarat Park spokesperson Rasha Kablawi noted that the initiative captured the spirit of community collaboration in the UAE’s Year of Community, showing how collective action can protect the environment and inspire future solutions.

The achievement stands as a striking example of how recycled materials can become lasting symbols of creativity, unity and shared responsibility in sustainability.
