Jotun has reinforced its global leadership in passive fire protection with the launch of Jotachar 1709XT at ADIPEC 2025, marking a new chapter in its mission to protect people, assets, and the environment.
Developed through a multi-year global R&D and certification program, and manufactured in Oman, Jotachar 1709XT expands Jotun’s trusted range of fire-protection coatings designed for energy infrastructure exposed to extreme conditions. The innovation delivers certified, high-performance protection that enhances both safety and sustainability for critical assets across the Middle East and beyond.
As the UAE and Saudi Arabia drive their respective Net Zero 2050 and 2060 agendas, maintaining the integrity of existing steel structures has become a key sustainability objective. Jotachar 1709XT supports this goal by extending asset lifespan, minimizing steel replacement, and reducing lifecycle emissions, all while ensuring operational reliability and structural safety during fire exposure.
“The energy industry is under pressure to enhance safety while reducing environmental impact,” said Andy Czainsky, Global Category Manager – Fire Protection, Jotun. “Every ton of steel that remains in service represents a carbon saving. Jotachar 1709XT allows asset owners to meet both objectives—ensuring protection and extending the lifespan of critical infrastructure.”
Certified to UL 1709 standards, the new coating has undergone extensive testing—including over 1 km of coated steel and 35,000 kg of product during evaluation—proving its fire performance and long-term durability. Its patent-pending formulation delivers high mechanical strength, faster film build, and superior workability at elevated temperatures.
With local production capacity of 2.4 million litres annually, Jotun’s Oman facility strengthens regional supply efficiency, cutting lead times and ensuring agile delivery for energy sector projects.
“By manufacturing the Jotachar range in Oman, we’re able to support the Gulf energy sector more efficiently with technology engineered for local conditions,” added Ahmad Mohammad, Managing Director – Jotun Saudi Arabia.
Complementing the product, Jotun continues to offer Certified Applicator Schemes, fire engineering services, and end-to-end project support, ensuring optimized fire protection performance across energy infrastructures.
With Jotachar 1709XT, Jotun reaffirms its long-standing commitment to steel integrity, safety, and sustainability—empowering energy operators to build safer, more resilient, and environmentally responsible assets for the future.
