DHL Global Forwarding and CMA CGM have partnered to use 8,990 metric tons of UCOME second-generation biofuel, enabling an estimated 25,000 metric tons of CO2e well-to-wake emission reduction for ocean freight under DHL’s GoGreen Plus service.
This initiative supports customers in reducing the carbon intensity of their global supply chains while pushing the shipping industry toward alternative marine fuels.
Driving Lower-Carbon Ocean Freight Solutions
Through DHL’s GoGreen Plus and CMA CGM’s ACT+ offerings, shippers can integrate sustainable maritime transport into their logistics operations. CMA CGM will physically bunker the biofuel across its fleet, while DHL’s Book & Claim approach ensures the emission reductions are allocated to paying customers. This solution enables up to 80% GHG emission reductions compared to conventional maritime fuel.
Shared Ambition for Net Zero
DHL aims to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2050, while CMA CGM has already reduced the carbon intensity of its shipping activities by 57% since 2008 and remains committed to Net Zero Carbon by 2050. Both companies will continue exploring opportunities to scale sustainable fuel usage and collaborate on decarbonizing international supply chains.
Understanding GoGreen Plus
DHL’s GoGreen Plus products provide true value chain decarbonization, replacing fossil fuels with sustainable fuels and allowing customers to report emissions reductions. The Book & Claim model ensures the environmental benefits are allocated to customers, even if their shipments are not physically transported using alternative fuels.
