750,000 Solar Panels Installed by Saudi Arabia to Power Red Sea Global Project

The megaproject's complete independence from the national grid is not only the largest but also the first of its kind in the world

In order to run the first phase of the "Red Sea Project," which consists of 16 hotels, retail shops, entertainment venues, and infrastructure facilities, completely powered by renewable energy, Red Sea Global has announced the installation of 750,000 solar panels and five solar stations.

Red Sea Global's CEO, John Pagano, noted that the business has been committed from the start to using a unique strategy in its projects and operations. Such commitment, he added, is demonstrated by the creation of the greatest tourism destination in the world that is entirely powered by renewable energy.

According to Pagano, the first phase of the Red Sea Project included the installation of electroluminescent (EL) panels at the five solar stations, and because the megaproject is totally independent of the national grid, it is not only the biggest of its kind in the world but also the first.

One of the solar stations is located near the Six Senses Southern Dunes, the Red Sea Resort, and Spa, the first solar-powered resort and hotel to be inaugurated of the 16 hotels of the first phase of the Red Sea Project.

Two solar stations are located near the Desert Rock mountain resort and the Sheybarah Resort on Sheybarah Island. In comparison, two other solar stations of larger capacity will power the remaining resorts and the 15 beach villas in the Turtle Bay Village.

The world's largest battery storage facility, with a 1,200MWh capacity, is also being built by Red Sea Global, allowing the massive tourism project to achieve 100% grid independence and staying true to the company's commitment to sustainability as well as to helping to achieve the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030.

All vehicles transporting visitors of the Red Sea Tourism Project will be fully powered by solar energy, starting with their arrival at the Red Sea International Airport and continuing through their movements within the sites and between the nearby islands.

Following the announcement of the installation of PV panels, the company stated: "Our renewables vision is becoming a reality. All 750,000+ PV panels for phase one of The Red Sea are now installed.

"With ongoing commissioning of systems and construction of the world’s largest battery storage facility, soon the destination will be powered by sunlight, day and night."
