Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) Managing Director and Group CEO H.E. Mohamed Al Hammadi has been appointed Chairman of the World Association of Nuclear Operators’ (WANO) Atlanta Centre—marking the first time an Arab or Asian leader has held this prestigious position

The Atlanta Centre is one of WANO’s most critical hubs, bringing together operators of more than 100 commercial nuclear units across North America and select international partners to align on nuclear performance, safety, and operational excellence.
With over ten years of active leadership within WANO, Al Hammadi joined the Atlanta Centre Governing Board in 2015 and later served as WANO President from 2022–2024.
His elevation to Chairman reflects international recognition of ENEC’s role in advancing nuclear quality, reliability, and best practices globally.
The announcement comes at a time when the US civil nuclear sector is entering a new phase of momentum, driven by federal initiatives and industry collaboration.
ENEC has recently signed multiple partnership agreements in the US—including MoUs with Westinghouse and GE Vernova—to explore joint opportunities in:
New nuclear deployment
Expanding nuclear fuel supply chains
Strategic investment and technology cooperation
Aligned with US NRC standards and WANO-Atlanta Centre practices, ENEC is now well positioned to mobilise quickly on joint US–UAE nuclear ventures.
Commenting on the appointment, Al Hammadi said:
“This role reflects the advanced Emirati expertise in civil nuclear energy, made possible by the continuous support of the UAE Leadership. We reaffirm our commitment to supporting all WANO members and advancing global nuclear operational excellence.”
He added that ENEC will continue to collaborate closely with US partners to accelerate nuclear deployment at the highest standards of safety, reliability, and energy security—especially amid rising global power demand.
ENEC’s flagship project, the four-unit Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, stands as one of the world’s most successful new-build civil nuclear programmes.
