Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has set one of the best records globally by decreasing water network losses to 5.3%.

As H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Dewa CEO, said, such results have been reached thanks to the application of the best global practices in all of DEWA's projects.

Al Tayer said: "We prepare for the future with scientific planning and innovation, using the latest technologies in the generation, transmission, distribution, and control of water networks.

"We also develop innovative experiences to raise efficiency and reliability of electricity and water"

According to the latest data, DEWA’s current capacity has reached 13,417 MW of electricity and 490 MIGD of water, achieving substantial savings in developing the water network and raising the water flow to meet comprehensive development needs and growing demand.

Among the smart systems applied by DEWA for non-visible leaks are automation and digital transformation projects and the use of acoustic technology such as noise loggers or ground microphones.

Furthermore, Helium gas technology has been used in distribution pipelines to detect losses in the water network.

From 2013 to 2021, 7,008 leaks were detected, which saved 4,069.93 million gallons and $44 million while DEWA's advanced Hydro net project has saved $1.5 million annually by remotely monitoring and controlling the water network in Dubai.
