The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), in collaboration with the UAE Alliance for Climate Action (UACA), convened a joint session in Dubai to align the private sector with national climate priorities.
The meeting created a platform for dialogue and knowledge-sharing, enabling businesses and non-state actors to translate climate ambition into measurable action.
With the UAE’s climate law — Federal Decree-Law No. (11) of 2024 on the Reduction of Climate Change Effects — now in force, the private sector has a clear framework for reducing emissions, reporting progress, and innovating in line with the nation’s ambitious climate targets.
A National Model of Collaboration
Her Excellency Dr. Alanoud Alhaj Al Ali, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Green Development and Climate Change at MOCCAE, emphasized that collaboration is the cornerstone of the UAE’s path to Net Zero by 2050:
“The UAE is committed to a collaborative development model, uniting government, the private sector, and all stakeholders to achieve the nation's climate objectives. By aligning private sector leadership with our national priorities, we are laying the foundation for a climate-resilient and prosperous future.”
This vision demonstrates that economic growth and environmental protection can advance hand in hand, setting benchmarks for global climate leadership.
Empowering the Private Sector
The session highlighted how private companies can:
Integrate sustainable practices into operations
Adopt technologies to reduce their carbon footprint
Leverage the National Register for Carbon Credits to support measurable progress
Access incentives designed to accelerate innovation and green investment
By familiarizing companies with national priorities, the dialogue reduced the gap between regulation and implementation, ensuring businesses are equipped to lead in the low-carbon transition.
Civil Society Driving Systemic Change
Laila Mostafa Abdullatif, Director General of Emirates Nature–WWF, underscored the significance of UACA in catalyzing private sector climate action:
“Understanding the national climate priorities is not just about compliance; it is about enabling companies to unlock green innovation, future-proof their operations, and contribute meaningfully to the UAE’s net-zero journey.”
UACA’s role in convening and amplifying private sector voices ensures that companies not only meet climate obligations but also seize opportunities for sustainable growth and competitive advantage.
Building a Climate-Resilient Economy
The discussions reinforced that the UAE’s strategy is anchored in transparency, accountability, and opportunity creation. By incentivizing emissions reduction, stimulating green jobs, and accelerating technology adoption, the country is strengthening its position as a global climate leader.
This collaborative model — bridging government policy, private sector innovation, and civil society engagement — is a critical pillar of the UAE’s pathway to achieving Net Zero by 2050.
