Abu Dhabi Expands Autonomous Taxi Operations on Yas Island

New partnerships and advanced technology accelerate the emirate’s vision for smart, sustainable mobility

SME News Service

Under the supervision of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, the Integrated Transport Centre has expanded commercial operations of autonomous taxi services on Yas Island.

The expansion marks a significant milestone in Abu Dhabi’s strategy to build a future-ready transportation ecosystem driven by smart mobility and advanced technologies.

Global Partnerships Driving Innovation

The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with Apollo Go, a subsidiary of Baidu, while Autogo serves as the local operator.

This partnership strengthens the operational ecosystem by bringing in multiple operators, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring operational readiness for the wider rollout of autonomous mobility services across the emirate.

Level 4 Autonomous Taxis Begin Commercial Operations

The expansion follows the successful completion of extensive testing and operational trials on Yas Island. With the transition to Level 4 autonomous taxis, passengers can now experience driverless mobility as part of a commercial service.

Users can request rides through the AutoGo smart application, available on both Android and Apple app stores.

Expansion Planned Across Key Abu Dhabi Districts

Following its deployment on Yas Island, the autonomous taxi service is expected to expand to other major districts, including:

  • Al Reem Island

  • Al Maryah Island

  • Saadiyat Island

The gradual rollout reflects Abu Dhabi’s strategic approach to scaling autonomous mobility while maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency.

Strengthening Abu Dhabi’s Smart Mobility Vision

According to officials from the Integrated Transport Centre, the expansion demonstrates the emirate’s commitment to enabling smart mobility solutions by establishing robust regulatory and operational frameworks.

By partnering with global technology leaders and integrating advanced transportation systems, Abu Dhabi aims to build a smart, sustainable, and efficient mobility network that enhances urban living while positioning the city as a global hub for autonomous technology innovation.
