UAE Launches ‘Tahweel’: First National Digital Marketplace for Recyclables

Revolutionary platform by MOCCAE and BEEAH accelerates circular economy, cuts bureaucracy, and unlocks new value from waste

SME News Service

In a landmark step towards a future-ready circular economy, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has launched ‘Tahweel’, the UAE’s first national digital marketplace for recyclable materials.

Developed in strategic partnership with BEEAH Group, Tahweel marks one of the federal government’s most impactful transformational initiatives for 2024–2025, designed to reinforce integrated waste management and generate new economic value from recyclable resources.

The initiative reflects the ambitions of the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision, which aims to position the country as a global hub for the new economy within the next decade.

A Future-Focused Partnership

The launch ceremony, hosted at BEEAH’s headquarters in Sharjah, was attended by H.E. Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, and Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO and Vice Chairman of BEEAH Group. The signing of a strategic partnership agreement between MOCCAE and BEEAH formalized this milestone collaboration.

Dr. Al Dahak emphasized that Tahweel is “more than a waste management solution—it is a driver of sustainable business models and national economic growth.” By creating a transparent and efficient trading ecosystem for recyclables, the platform enables SMEs and large enterprises alike to actively participate in the circular economy.

Beyond Waste Management: The Zero Bureaucracy Edge

A key highlight of Tahweel is its integration with the government’s Zero Bureaucracy initiative. By eliminating outdated processes and streamlining regulatory frameworks, the platform replaces lengthy administrative procedures with direct, transparent digital interactions.

According to H.E. Eng. Alya Abdelrahim Alharmoodi, Assistant Undersecretary for Sustainable Communities, Tahweel removes barriers that previously slowed the recycling market. Producers and buyers of recyclable materials can now transact securely in real time, reducing operational costs while improving business competitiveness across the UAE.

Powered by Technology and Market Efficiency

The Tahweel marketplace leverages advanced trading technologies developed by BEEAH’s subsidiary re.life, which has already demonstrated rapid regional and international growth.

The platform supports multiple categories of recyclables including metals, plastics, paper, wood, e-waste, glass, and rubber, offering flexible trading options such as:

  • Timed auctions

  • Partial auctions

  • Instant sales

  • Instant purchases

By allowing fair pricing, transparency, and direct connections between businesses, Tahweel eliminates intermediaries and enhances the efficiency of recyclable material trading.

Accelerating the Circular Economy

With recyclables directly connected to buyers and sellers, Tahweel not only reduces landfill dependency but also:

  • Lowers waste management costs for industries

  • Generates added value from secondary raw materials

  • Boosts the UAE’s sustainability credentials

Contributes to global climate goals

Khaled Al Huraimel noted that the platform will “convert waste into resources that reduce costs for businesses while driving sustainability for communities and the environment.”

Next Steps: National Integration

To maximize adoption, MOCCAE and BEEAH will coordinate with local waste management authorities, run awareness campaigns, and provide training and technical support for businesses. This nationwide integration ensures Tahweel becomes the backbone of a regulated, thriving recycling economy in the UAE.

Tahweel is not just a platform—it is the UAE’s new digital engine for circular economy growth, aligning environmental responsibility with economic competitiveness.
