The implementation of Saudi Green Initiative’s ambitious program to plant over 10 billion trees in the country is under way.

The target also represents 4 per cent of the global drive to reverse land degradation and 1 per cent of the global effort to plant one trillion trees.

The CEO of the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification, Dr. Khalid Al-Abdulqader, visited the advisory team who’re supervising the implementation of the Saudi Green Initiative and the executive plan for afforestation at work sites.

The center is working to implement the project by holding a series of scientific workshops in cooperation with a number of local partners, and global expertise houses with the aim of rehabilitating 40 million hectares of degraded lands in the Kingdom.

Saudi Green Initiatives is part of the kingdom's Vision 2030 programme to reshape its economy, placing itself at the centre of regional efforts to meet international targets on environmental projects.

The initiative also aims at planting 50 billion across the Middle East, cutting carbon dioxide emissions in the Middle East by 60%, diverting 94% of rubbish now going to landfill.
